Polypropylene Braided Rope

Braid poly rope is a tough and reliable type of rope which is used in many different industries on a daily basis. It’s commonly seen by rock-climbers helping them to scale a wall, and in leisure centres sectioning off lanes in the swimming pool or even in the nets on a football pitch. It’s also found in logistics companies holding down tarpaulins on lorries transporting goods across the country.

Unlike polyester and nylon which sink when wet, polypropylene floats and is quite immune to the effects of water – it will not shrink or swell. It’s also resistant to mildew, mould and acids. It’s not as abrasion resistant as polyester or nylon, however temperature has little impact on it and it stretches very little.

There are two main types of polypropylene braided rope: hollow and solid. Hollow braided is made from 16 or more strands of polypropylene that are woven together in a twill pattern to produce beautiful colour combinations. It’s strong and economically priced, has good resistance to abrasion and is often UV stabilised to protect against the damaging effects of sunlight. It splices easily and is easy on the hands, and is suitable for use in a wide variety of applications including flagpole lanyards, tying down tents or light rigging.

Solid braided is made from either a continuous monofilament similar but thicker than polyester and nylon or it’s chopped into short strands which are then twisted like natural fibres to create staple yarn. It’s easy to splice, has low stretch and comes in a vast variety of diameters, lengths, colours and styles. It’s suitable for a wide range of applications, including tying down tents, tying down awnings and light rigging. It’s sometimes colour coated and treated with UV stabilisers to protect against the damaging effects of sunlight.
